The Centre for Media and Communication Research (CMCR) at Pan-Atlantic University, in partnership with NNPC Foundation, will host the second edition of the NNPC Foundation Symposium on Energy and Environmental Communication from June 10 to 11.
The announcement was made in a statement by CMCR Director, Prof. Nelson Okorie, who said the gathering will bring together stakeholders from across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones to deepen discourse on environmental sustainability and energy communication.
The symposium, backed by the Corporate Social Responsibility framework of the NNPC Limited through its foundation, is expected to spotlight the growing importance of strategic communication in addressing environmental degradation and climate-related risks.
Prof. Okorie said environmental communication remains central to modern media scholarship and development planning, particularly in countries grappling with climate vulnerabilities and energy transition challenges.
“In the realm of media studies, environmental communication is essential for mitigating issues affecting climate change and environmental health across the globe,” he said. “Scholars agree that environmental communication is a catalyst for promoting environmental adaptation, conservation, and biodiversity in most modern societies.”
He added that the symposium would help build a network of development experts and communication professionals focused on advancing Nigeria’s environmental sustainability goals while aligning with broader global development frameworks.
The event is expected to attract academics, policymakers, environmental advocates, and communication specialists who will engage on practical pathways for improving public understanding of energy and environmental issues.
