The Osun State Police Command has recovered another corpse within the precinct of Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife, bringing the reported death toll from Sunday’s shooting to two.

The development came as the remains of Accord Party chieftain Olalekan Oyeyemi, popularly known as “Emir Ajagungbade”, were buried at his newly completed residence in the Agunbelewo area of Osogbo on Monday.

Oyeyemi was shot during a clash at the Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on Sunday.

The police spokesman, Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the recovery of the second corpse while giving an update on the incident.

He said the corpse had been deposited at a morgue, while the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

Ojelabi urged people being mentioned in connection with the incident to report themselves to the nearest police station rather than engaging in social media exchanges.

He said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, had directed that everyone involved in the violence be arrested and prosecuted.

The shooting occurred amid a dispute over the leadership and control of motor parks in the state.

Governor Ademola Adeleke had ordered the arrest of those responsible for Oyeyemi’s killing and directed security agencies to restore normalcy across affected motor parks.

The governor also announced plans to reintroduce a Park Management System for motor parks and garages in the state.

Oyeyemi’s remains were interred according to traditional rites at his Agunbelewo residence in Osogbo.

Close family members and priests witnessed the burial, while some of his associates who accompanied his remains from the Osun State University Teaching Hospital reportedly waited outside the premises.

Tension had earlier risen at the hospital after suspected associates of the deceased allegedly attacked two members of staff.

Police personnel later arrived at the hospital in several vehicles and restored normalcy.

Meanwhile, the state Commissioner for Transportation, Sesan Oyedele, denied claims that he summoned NURTW leaders to his residence to endorse Oyeyemi as the next state chairman of the union.

Oyedele said union leaders came to his residence on Sunday morning to brief him about their decision to support Oyeyemi.

He said he told them that he would present their position to the governor, the Chief of Staff and other relevant officials.

According to the commissioner, he received information about Oyeyemi’s death about two hours after the meeting ended.

The police investigation into the shooting and the recovery of the second corpse is ongoing.
