The Sokoto State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding the pool of professional accountants in the state by supporting more indigenes to become members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).
The assurance was given by the Deputy Accountant-General of Sokoto State, Alhaji Junaidu Usman, during the investiture of the newly elected executive committee of the ICAN Sokoto and District Society, where he also received an Award of Excellence.
Speaking after the ceremony, Usman said Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration remained committed to developing qualified accounting professionals to strengthen transparency, accountability and public financial management across the state.

“By the grace of Allah, Governor Ahmed Aliyu will do everything possible to ensure that more people from Sokoto State are enrolled as members of ICAN. We believe professional accountants are critical to promoting transparency, accountability and effective service delivery,” he said.
He described the award as a motivation to continue upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability in public service.
Usman added that increasing the number of professionally certified accountants would support the implementation of the state’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda and encouraged young accountants to pursue professional qualifications.
The ceremony also saw the inauguration of Mr Oluwakayode Adeboye as the seventh Chairman of the ICAN Sokoto and District Society for a one-year tenure.
Representing ICAN President Mrs Queensley Sofuratu, the institute’s North-West District Coordinator, Mallam Babayo Shehu, said the leadership transition reflected ICAN’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and good governance.
Zenith Bank’s North-West 4 Zonal Head, Alhaji Abdulkadir Farid, congratulated the new executives and expressed confidence in their ability to strengthen the accounting profession in the region.
In his acceptance speech, Adeboye pledged to build a vibrant, ethical and innovative district society while positioning members to take advantage of emerging global opportunities.
The investiture was held under the theme, “Accounting Beyond Borders: Strengthening Professional Leadership in an Era of Geopolitics and Regional Integration.”
