President Bola Tinubu has constituted the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election, appointing former Zamfara State Governor and serving senator Abdulaziz Yari as Director-General and Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma as secretary.
The appointments were announced on Saturday in a statement signed by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Tinubu will serve as chairman of the council, while Vice President Kashim Shettima will be Vice-Chairman I. APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda was named Vice-Chairman II.
APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and Hadiza Bala-Usman were appointed deputy secretary and assistant secretary respectively.
The council brings together senior party leaders, governors, lawmakers and political operatives as the ruling party begins building its machinery for Tinubu’s re-election campaign.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, House of Representatives Speaker Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni were named deputy director-generals for the campaign.
They will work with Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele and Deputy Senate President Jibril Barau on zonal coordination.
Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole was appointed Deputy Director-General for mobilisation, while Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, will oversee administration.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a major role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General for election planning, coordination and monitoring.
Faleke will coordinate with directors assigned to the six geopolitical zones.
The legal directorate will be headed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Muiz Adeyemi Banire, with Liman Hassan and Babatunde Ogala serving as deputies.
The media and strategic communications directorate will be coordinated by Information and National Orientation Minister Mohammed Idris alongside Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu.
Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka were named coordinating deputy directors.
Segun Dada, who served as Director of New Media during the previous presidential campaign, returns to the position, with Solomon Arowolo as secretary.
The campaign council also appointed five spokespersons led by Alake. They are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
The announcement follows days of political consultations over the composition of the APC’s 2027 campaign structure. Yari and Uzodimma had emerged as prominent names in discussions over who should occupy key positions in the campaign organisation.
Tinubu’s decision places Yari at the centre of the campaign’s operational structure, while Uzodimma, who leads one of the APC’s strongest political states in the South-East, assumes the role of secretary.
The ruling party’s campaign organisation comes as political parties move deeper into preparations for the 2027 general election.
Tinubu charged members of the council to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC and urged directorate heads to accommodate other party members who could contribute to the campaign.
The President said his administration had delivered on its campaign promises and urged the council to make the government’s economic record a major part of its campaign message.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress,” Tinubu said.
He also urged the campaign team to showcase the administration’s achievements and inspire confidence among voters as the election approaches.
With the campaign council now constituted, attention will shift to how effectively the APC can translate its national political structure into grassroots mobilisation and electoral support across the country.
