Accord Party candidate for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, Pelumi Olajengbesi, has said political reconciliation in Osun State has created an opportunity to mobilise more than one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
Olajengbesi made the declaration on Saturday after meeting Seyi Tinubu, the President’s son, according to a statement personally signed by the lawyer.
The former spokesperson of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s campaign said the post-election political environment in Osun had provided room for wider cooperation among stakeholders.
“With the reconciliation achieved in Osun State and the commitment expressed by Governor Ademola Adeleke towards President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, our political objective is clear: to mobilise over one million votes for President Tinubu in Osun State in the next presidential election,” he said.
The one-million-vote figure is Olajengbesi’s stated mobilisation target, not an independent projection of the 2027 result.
The claim comes against the backdrop of Adeleke’s renewed support for Tinubu after winning the August 15 Osun governorship election.
Adeleke, who contested under Accord, polled 511,067 votes to defeat APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815. ADC candidate Najeem Salaam received 17,180 votes.
After his re-election, Adeleke reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The governor later said his support was not based on a political agreement with the President and indicated that he would work with APC figures, including his defeated opponent, in support of Tinubu when the 2027 campaign begins.
That position has given added political significance to Olajengbesi’s latest declaration.
The Accord candidate has positioned his proposed mobilisation as an extension of the cooperation around Adeleke and Tinubu, rather than as a formal abandonment of his party identity.
Olajengbesi is himself preparing for a 2027 legislative contest. He secured the Accord ticket for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency seat earlier this year and is set to contest for the House of Representatives seat.
He also praised Seyi Tinubu for what he described as support for youth participation in governance and engagement with young Nigerians.
“Perhaps one of the most consequential bets young Nigerians have had around this administration is Seyi Tinubu,” Olajengbesi said, describing him as someone who had engaged young people, supported aspirations and built relationships.
Olajengbesi’s target represents a substantial increase on Tinubu’s performance in Osun during the 2023 presidential election.
Atiku Abubakar of the PDP polled 354,366 votes in the state, while Tinubu recorded 343,945 and Peter Obi of the Labour Party secured 23,283.
The proposed target would therefore require a significant expansion in support and turnout compared with Tinubu’s 2023 performance.
Osun’s 2026 governorship election recorded 1,005,800 votes cast, including 985,079 valid votes.
Olajengbesi nevertheless said the political objective would require grassroots mobilisation rather than reliance on elite-level endorsements.
His comments come after a series of political developments in Osun in which members and supporters of rival parties have expressed support for Tinubu’s 2027 bid.
With Adeleke now re-elected and publicly committed to supporting Tinubu, Olajengbesi says the next stage is to translate the emerging political cooperation into grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2027 presidential poll.
