Kylian Mbappé is expected to return from injury as Real Madrid prepare for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League last-16 tie against Manchester City on Tuesday.

The French forward missed the first leg in Madrid due to a knee problem, a match Real Madrid won 3–0. Despite his absence, the Spanish side secured a strong advantage ahead of the return fixture at the Etihad Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the game, Real Madrid coach Álvaro Arbeloa confirmed that Mbappé has recovered and is available for selection. The forward has been in prolific form this season, scoring 38 goals in 33 appearances.

Midfielder Jude Bellingham also travelled with the squad as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury. However, the England international is not expected to play in the match. Arbeloa noted that Bellingham’s presence with the team remains important as he continues rehabilitation.

Real Madrid will attempt to progress to the next round of the UEFA Champions League while holding a significant lead from the first leg.

Defender Antonio Rüdiger said one of the main challenges for the Spanish club will be containing City striker Erling Haaland, whom he described as a world-class forward.

Rüdiger also addressed recent criticism from Diego Rico of Getafe CF regarding a physical challenge during a recent match. The defender said his aggressive playing style remains within acceptable limits and denied any intention to harm the opposing player.

Real Madrid enters the second leg aiming to eliminate Manchester City from the competition for the third consecutive season.
