The Allied People’s Movement (APM) says its presidential candidate, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has emerged as a credible alternative to President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, made the claim in Abuja on Sunday, saying the APM’s cross-party engagements were yielding positive results as it builds a broad opposition alliance for the next presidential election.

According to Yusuf, the party is attracting increasing support from Nigerians and political stakeholders across the country.

He said recent developments in Ekiti State, where members of the Peoples Democratic Party resolved to collaborate with the APM while retaining their party identity, demonstrate the growing acceptance of Makinde’s presidential ambition.

Yusuf described the move as a significant boost for the party, insisting that Makinde’s performance as governor of Oyo State has positioned him as a strong contender for Nigeria’s highest office.

He added that the party intends to run an issue-based campaign focused on security, economic recovery, accountable governance and national development.

The APM spokesman said more political alignments were expected in the coming months as the party expands its nationwide structure ahead of the 2027 elections.

He also welcomed the decision of the Ekiti PDP leadership to support APM candidates in future elections while maintaining its existing organisational structure.

According to Yusuf, Makinde’s achievements in infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, security and public sector reforms continue to attract support from Nigerians across political divides.

The latest declaration comes as political parties intensify consultations and alliance talks ahead of the 2027 general elections, with opposition groups seeking to build stronger coalitions to challenge the ruling APC.
