The 2026 summer transfer window is shaping up to be one of the most transformative in recent football history, with several of the game’s most celebrated managers and players preparing for new chapters after bringing successful eras to an end.

Leading the list is Pep Guardiola, whose departure from Manchester City closes a remarkable decade at the Etihad Stadium. During his tenure, the Spaniard established one of the greatest dynasties in English football, winning six Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, multiple domestic cups and becoming the first manager to guide an English club to four consecutive league titles.

Antonio Conte is another leading managerial name attracting attention. The former Juventus, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Napoli coach has built a reputation for delivering immediate success, making him one of Europe’s most sought-after tacticians whenever a major vacancy emerges.

Former France coach Didier Deschamps also features prominently after ending his lengthy spell with the national team. Having guided France to World Cup glory and consistently competed at the highest level, the 57-year-old is expected to attract interest should he return to club football.

The list of available managers also includes Arne Slot, Filipe Luís, Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe, Xavi Hernández, Thomas Frank and Thiago Motta, reflecting the unusually strong coaching market expected to dominate discussions throughout the transfer window.

Beyond the dugout, several iconic players are also expected to move on from clubs where they became household names.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah headlines that group. Since arriving from Roma in 2017, the Egyptian has become one of the Premier League’s greatest attackers, helping Liverpool win the league title, Champions League, FA Cup and numerous individual honours. Speculation over his future has intensified as Liverpool continue reshaping their squad.

His long-time teammate Andrew Robertson is also facing an uncertain future, with reports linking the Scotland captain to possible moves abroad as Liverpool refresh their defensive options.

Manchester City’s squad is also expected to undergo significant changes following Guardiola’s departure. Bernardo Silva and John Stones are both widely tipped to leave after playing central roles in the club’s sustained domestic and European dominance.

Elsewhere, Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski could be nearing the end of his spell in Catalonia as the Spanish giants pursue younger attacking options, while Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has been linked with an exit after helping the club secure a return to the UEFA Champions League.

At Atlético Madrid, Antoine Griezmann continues to attract interest from outside Europe, while captain Koke is reportedly approaching the end of his long association with the Spanish club.

Real Madrid veterans Dani Carvajal and David Alaba also face uncertain futures amid the club’s ongoing squad renewal, while Borussia Dortmund duo Julian Brandt and Niklas Süle have both emerged as potential departures.

Veteran midfielder Santi Cazorla is also expected to retire after an emotional return to boyhood club Real Oviedo, bringing one of Spanish football’s most inspiring careers to a close.

With Europe’s biggest clubs entering another rebuilding cycle, the coming weeks are expected to feature intense transfer activity as teams seek replacements for legendary managers and experienced players whose departures mark the end of some of modern football’s most successful eras.
