The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dismissed reports linking the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kemi Nandap, to an ongoing investigation into alleged visa racketeering.

In a statement issued on Monday by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, the anti-graft agency said the Immigration Service boss is not under investigation.

The commission explained that while it is investigating alleged visa fraud involving some immigration officers, Nandap has no connection with the ongoing cases.

“The commission wishes to state unequivocally that it has no case with the Immigration CG,” the statement said.

The EFCC confirmed that criminal cases involving some immigration officers are already before the Federal High Court over alleged visa fraud.

It added that investigations are continuing and could lead to the prosecution of additional officers if more evidence is uncovered.

According to the commission, the Comptroller-General is “not remotely connected” to any of the ongoing investigations.

The EFCC also urged journalists and media organisations to verify information with the agency before publication to prevent misinformation.

The clarification follows reports alleging that some immigration officers collected money from visa overstayers instead of enforcing penalties prescribed under the Nigeria Visa Policy 2025, which imposes a $15 daily fine for visa overstays.

Investigators are also reportedly examining financial transactions linked to some officers and alleged proceeds from the scheme.

The EFCC, however, maintained that its investigations are limited to the officers involved and do not include the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
