Popular Anambra comedian and media personality Isaac Nwosu, popularly known as Aiza Nwosu, has been shot dead alongside another man in separate attacks in Awka, the state capital.

The killings occurred on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at S.M. Okeke Street, Amaikwo, and Capital City Road, Amaenyi, throwing residents into panic.

The Anambra State Police Command said three unidentified persons travelling in a silver-coloured Toyota Corolla were suspected to have carried out the attacks.

The vehicle’s registration number was not immediately known.

Nwosu was killed along S.M. Okeke Street, while the second victim, whose identity was yet to be established, was shot along Capital City Road.

The police said both victims were recovered by operatives and taken to a hospital, where medical personnel confirmed them dead.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers allegedly trailed Nwosu from his residence before double-crossing his vehicle and opening fire.

One witness said the gunmen later drove away and attacked another man by the roadside, allegedly dispossessing him of his belongings before fleeing.

The attackers were also said to have fired shots into the air as they escaped, heightening tension in the area and forcing residents to seek safety.

The motive for the killings has not been established.

Some residents have suggested that the attacks may be connected to cult-related activities, but the police have not confirmed the allegation and investigators are yet to establish a motive.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command had launched a manhunt for the suspects.

“The Anambra State Police Command condemns in the strongest terms this dastardly act,” Ikenga said.

He said patrol teams were mobilised immediately after the command received distress information and officers began efforts to track down the attackers.

Police operatives recovered the bodies from the two locations and found N7,550, a Moniepoint ATM card and a pair of slippers at the scenes.

Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, described the killings as unacceptable and a direct affront to the peace and security of the state.

He ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Awka for a discreet and comprehensive investigation.

Security operatives have also intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence gathering across Awka and adjoining communities.

The police are seeking assistance from residents as investigators work to identify the attackers and establish what led to the killings.

Community leaders, motorists, business owners and other residents who witnessed the incidents or have information about the suspects or the vehicle used in the attacks have been urged to contact the police.

The command said information supplied by members of the public would be treated with utmost confidentiality.

Nwosu’s death has sent shockwaves through Awka’s entertainment community, where he was known as a comedian and media personality.

The latest violence has also renewed concerns about the security of residents in the Anambra capital, with investigators now under pressure to identify those behind the attacks and prevent further violence.
