The Oyo State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has declared support for Allied Peoples Movement governorship candidate, Abimbola “Bimbo” Adekanmbi, ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.

The declaration was made during an engagement with members and stakeholders of the Igbo community in the state, where participants also emphasised unity, peaceful coexistence and greater participation in the political process.

The gathering brought together Igbo community leaders, stakeholders and political actors, with discussions also highlighting the contribution of Ndigbo to the social and economic development of Oyo State.

Adekanmbi, who attended the engagement, assured the gathering that his administration, if elected, would promote inclusive governance and ensure residents and communities from different backgrounds have a sense of belonging.

“Unity, cooperation and equal participation are important in building a prosperous Oyo State,” Adekanmbi said.

The event forms part of the APM candidate’s continuing consultations with communities and interest groups across the state as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 election.

Adekanmbi emerged as the APM’s consensus governorship candidate in May 2026 after the party’s governorship primary in Ibadan. He was subsequently presented with a Certificate of Return.

At the engagement with the Igbo community, Executive Chairman of Ibadan North-East Local Government, Ibrahim Akinsola Akintayo, also called for support for the political direction of the APM, including the presidential candidacy of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Adekanmbi’s governorship campaign.

Makinde emerged as the APM’s presidential candidate in May following the party’s presidential primary in Ibadan, placing the Oyo political structure within the wider realignment taking shape ahead of the 2027 general election.

Adekanmbi has repeatedly made inclusion and continuity central to his campaign message. In July, he concluded a statewide thank-you tour during which he met party leaders, stakeholders and supporters across several local government areas.

The latest engagement also underscored the longstanding relationship between the Igbo community and the people of Oyo State, with speakers calling for continued peaceful coexistence and participation in the state’s political and development process.

Members of the community were encouraged to take part in the 2027 electoral process while making their choices according to their convictions and interests.

The development comes as political parties and candidates continue consultations with ethnic, professional, religious and community groups across Oyo State ahead of the governorship election.
