Members of the Akuru family of Agbeni, Ibadan, Oyo state, have expressed support for the senatorial ambition of Hon. Adedeji Dhikrullahi Stanley Olajide, popularly known as Odidiomo, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The family made its position known during a solidarity visit to the lawmaker, where members identified with his aspiration, heard an account of his years in public office and encouraged him as he seeks to represent Oyo South Senatorial District in the Senate.
The gathering was attended by strategic family heads and representatives of the Olajide family.
Addressing the gathering, Odidiomo thanked the family members for their visit and confidence in his public service record.
He said his seven years in public office had provided opportunities to impact lives positively and contribute to community development.
“In the last seven years, we have been able to impact lives positively. To the best of my ability, I have served diligently and I have not disappointed,” he said.
The lawmaker said his guiding principle in public office had remained service to the people rather than personal ambition, adding that political office should be regarded as a responsibility entrusted to representatives by the people.
Odidiomo, who represents Ibadan North-West/Ibadan South-West Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, said his legislative experience had enabled him to contribute to interventions in education, technology, youth empowerment and community development.
He also formally informed the family that he had secured the APM ticket to contest the Oyo South senatorial seat in 2027.
“I am also glad to formally inform you that, to the glory of God, I have been given the mandate to proceed to a higher office.
“My political party, the Allied Peoples’ Movement, has given me the mandate to run for the Senate of Oyo South Senatorial District,” he said.
Odidiomo emerged as the APM senatorial candidate for Oyo South in May 2026 following the party’s primary and affirmation process.
Since then, he has continued consultations with communities and stakeholders across the senatorial district. His recent engagements have included meetings with Community Development Councils in Ido and Ibarapa East, where he presented an agenda covering education, agriculture, healthcare, technology, employment and infrastructure.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Alhaji Muda Olajide commended Odidiomo for his public service and what the family described as his positive representation of their roots.
“You have been a good ambassador of this family. You are a true son of the family. You have represented us well and you have not disappointed us,” the family heads told him.
The family said the visit was an expression of solidarity with one of its own as he seeks to transition from the House of Representatives to the Senate.
The family also pledged continued support for Odidiomo’s aspiration while urging him to sustain his commitment to service and the welfare of the people.
The engagement comes as political activities and stakeholder consultations intensify across Oyo South ahead of the 2027 general election.
