The Christian movie industry has been thrown into mourning following the death of gospel film actor Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, widely recognised for portraying Flora’s husband in the popular Mount Zion film series, Abattoir.
Oyeyemi’s passing was announced by the Bowen University Alumni Association in a statement shared on Instagram on Tuesday.
Although the cause of death was not disclosed, the association described him as a dedicated drama minister, respected alumnus and passionate evangelist whose contributions touched many lives.
“It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we announce the passing and burial of one of our esteemed alumni, Mr. Omooba Oluwasegun Oyeyemi, Gomobzzzz, a proud member of the Viable Set and BBSF Drama Unit, who recently went to be with the Lord,” the statement read.
The association urged members of the alumni community to uphold the bereaved family in prayers and support them during the difficult period.
According to a burial poster released alongside the announcement, a Service of Songs is scheduled to hold in Ibadan on Thursday, July 2, while interment will take place on Friday, July 3, at the Garden of Saints Cemetery.
Mourners have been asked to attend dressed in white attire.
Beyond his memorable role in Abattoir, Oyeyemi featured in several productions by Mount Zion Faith Ministries, including Fiwajomi, Seyifunmi, Olukoya and Finding Grace.
Over the years, he became known among Christian movie audiences for portraying faith-driven characters and using drama as a tool for evangelism.
His death has also revived memories of recent losses within the Abattoir cast.
In February 2025, actress Toluwalope Adegboyega-Alagbe, who played Flora in Abattoir and was Oyeyemi’s on-screen wife, died from complications arising from injuries sustained in a road crash along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in December 2024.
The accident also claimed the life of one of her two-year-old twin daughters.
Tributes poured in following her death from members of the Christian film community, including Mount Zion founder Evangelist Mike Bamiloye and filmmaker Joshua Mike-Bamiloye.
Oyeyemi’s passing also comes after the death of another Abattoir cast member, Moses Korede Are, popularly known as Baba Gbenro, who died in 2024.
His death means that three actors associated with the widely followed gospel series have died within the last two years, leaving colleagues, fans and members of the Christian film industry mourning another painful loss.
