The family of former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, has fixed Sunday, September 13, 2026, for his burial in Yola, Adamawa State.
Tukur died in Abuja on Saturday at the age of 90, three days before his 91st birthday.
His son and Secretary to the Adamawa State Government, Awwal Tukur, announced the burial arrangements in a statement issued in Yola on Saturday.
Awwal said the former Governor of the old Gongola State would be buried after funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace by 10am on Sunday.
“The late elder statesman will be laid to rest on Sunday, 13th September, 2026, after funeral prayers at the Lamido’s Palace by 10:00 a.m.,” he said.
Tukur is survived by two wives and 18 children, including Awwal.
The late elder statesman had a long career in public service, business and politics.
He served as governor of the old Gongola State and later became Minister of Industries during the military administration of former Head of State, General Sani Abacha.
He also served as General Manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Ports Authority.
Tukur became National Chairman of the PDP in March 2012, a position he held until January 2014. He also served as president of the Africa Business Roundtable in 2012.
His death has attracted tributes from political leaders across the country.
President Bola Tinubu mourned Tukur, describing his death as a loss to Nigeria, while Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri declared three days of mourning in his honour.
The PDP and ADC National Chairman, Senator David Mark, also paid tribute to Tukur, describing him as an elder statesman whose contributions to Nigeria’s political, administrative and economic development spanned several decades.
Tukur would have turned 91 on September 15.
His burial on Sunday is expected to bring together members of his family, political associates, traditional leaders and other dignitaries in Yola.
