The Federal Road Safety Corps(FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election.
The deployment covers the three senatorial districts and is aimed at ensuring effective traffic management, emergency response, clearance of road obstructions and enforcement of the movement restriction during the election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed the Osun governorship election for Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The FRSC said 2,300 of the personnel were drawn from the Osun Sector Command, while 50 personnel each were deployed from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun sector commands.
The operational vehicles include seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances positioned at strategic locations to respond to emergencies and facilitate rescue operations.
FRSC Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, said the deployment was part of the agency’s contribution towards a peaceful, safe and credible electoral process.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mohammed said.
He said personnel would maintain strict professionalism, neutrality and discipline while respecting the rights of citizens throughout the election period.
The Corps said its personnel would work with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security and other relevant agencies while remaining within their statutory responsibilities.
As part of the preparations, the FRSC said it would inspect and certify vehicles provided by fleet operators for transporting election materials to ensure they are roadworthy and meet prescribed safety standards.
The agency also plans a Train-the-Trainer workshop involving the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission, Department of State Services and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
The workshop is expected to strengthen the capacity of personnel assigned to election duties.
On movement restrictions, the FRSC said vehicles assigned to enforcement would begin deployment from 6:00am on Saturday, with personnel stationed at strategic locations across Osun.
The agency advised motorists and transport operators to plan their journeys ahead and avoid restricted routes during the election.
FRSC operatives will also be involved in traffic control, crowd management, obstruction clearance and rescue operations before, during and after voting.
The Corps said its personnel would be deployed to designated locations in coordination with the police and other security agencies.
It directed officers on election duty to remain alert, approachable and respectful of citizens regardless of political affiliation, gender, religion or other considerations.
The FRSC also reminded its personnel of their obligation to comply with the prescribed oath of neutrality under the Electoral Act.
With INEC’s preparations for the August 15 poll already advanced, the road safety deployment is expected to support the movement of election officials, security personnel, accredited observers and other authorised road users across the state.
