The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Senior School Certificate Examination, with 804,948 candidates, representing 58.67 per cent, obtaining at least five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
NECO Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results on Thursday during a press briefing in Minna, Niger State.
The examination was conducted between June 15 and July 23, 2026.
Wushishi said 1,378,048 candidates registered for the examination, while 1,371,992 eventually sat for it.
He disclosed that 1,162,118 candidates, representing 84.70 per cent of those who sat for the examination, obtained five credits and above irrespective of their results in English Language and Mathematics.
The result release came 63 days after the last paper was written.
On examination malpractice, the NECO registrar said 1,406 candidates were involved in various forms of malpractice in 2026, compared with 3,878 recorded in 2025.
He said the figure represented a 64.74 per cent reduction.
Wushishi attributed the decline partly to the adoption of computer-based testing and strengthened examination security measures.
The 2026 SSCE marked a major shift in NECO’s examination process with the introduction of computer-based testing, which the Federal Government had described as an important step towards improving examination integrity and digitalising assessment.
The registrar also addressed the issue of “miracle centres”, saying NECO does not operate or own such centres.
“We don’t know miracle centres because we have only one school and we cannot be associated with miracle centres,” he said.
According to Wushishi, NECO registers examination centres based on established criteria but does not operate private or government schools that may be described as miracle centres.
The examination body had earlier denied allegations that a secondary school in Kogi State was being used as a “miracle examination centre” during the 2026 examination.
Candidates can now access their results through the NECO results platform using their examination token and registration number.
The council’s official results portal provides candidates with options to select the examination year and examination type before entering their credentials to view their results.
The release of the 2026 results gives candidates access to their performance records as universities and other tertiary institutions continue their admission processes.
