Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, has commissioned two newly completed road projects covering a combined distance of 5.1 kilometres in Funtua as part of the state’s Urban Renewal Programme.

The projects include the reconstructed and dualised 3.9-kilometre Funtua–Katsina Road, completed at a cost of ₦5.8 billion, and the upgraded 1.2-kilometre Tsohuwar Kasuwa Road, executed for ₦637 million.

Speaking during the inauguration on Tuesday, Radda said infrastructure development remains central to his administration’s efforts to improve transportation, enhance road safety and stimulate economic activities across the state.

“The successful completion of these projects shows our commitment to providing quality infrastructure that will stimulate economic activities, improve mobility, reduce travel time and enhance road safety,” the governor said.

He explained that the projects were executed by Mothercat Limited under the supervision of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport and form part of the Urban Renewal Programme covering the Katsina, Daura and Funtua Senatorial Zones.

Radda assured residents that his administration would continue investing in infrastructure to support economic growth and improve living standards.

“Our administration will continue to invest in infrastructure that improves the lives of our people and strengthens the economic future of Katsina State,” he said.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Sani Magaji, said the projects represent another milestone in the implementation of the state’s urban renewal agenda.

According to him, the Funtua–Katsina Road stretches from the Central Mosque Roundabout to the Dutsen-Rimi Roundabout, while the Tsohuwar Kasuwa Road links the Central Mosque Roundabout to the Zaria–Gusau Bypass.

He added that both roads were constructed with asphaltic concrete pavement and equipped with solar-powered streetlights to improve safety and durability.

Magaji also disclosed that work on the Sokoto Road Project in Funtua is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed before the end of 2026.

The projects are part of the Katsina State Government’s broader plan to modernise urban infrastructure and improve connectivity across major commercial centres.
