Law officers in the Kwara State Ministry of Justice have issued a seven-day notice of an indefinite strike to the state government over the alleged non-payment of statutory allowances and the failure to implement salary harmonisation with magistrates in the state judiciary.

The notice was issued by the Law Officers Association of Nigeria (LOAN), Kwara State Chapter, in a letter dated July 20, 2026, and addressed to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

Signed by the association’s Acting Chairman, Keyinde Ayorinde, and Secretary, Tolulope Oniyide, the letter stated that the notice period began on July 20 and will expire on July 26, after which members will commence an indefinite strike if their demands are not met.

According to the association, repeated appeals to the governor through the Office of the Head of Service have failed to secure the payment of outstanding statutory allowances or the implementation of salary and condition-of-service harmonisation for state counsel.

The law officers said their outstanding entitlements include the balance of the 50 per cent furniture allowance for 2020 and unpaid robe allowances for 2024, 2025 and 2026.

They also demanded the implementation of the harmonisation of salaries, allowances and general conditions of service with those of magistrates in the Kwara State Judiciary, in line with the 2005 approval.

The association maintained that the issues directly affect the welfare of law officers, whose responsibilities are critical to the administration of justice and the smooth functioning of government.

It warned that members would embark on an indefinite strike after the expiration of the notice unless the state government addresses the demands.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Government had not issued an official response to the notice.
