The President of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) in Oyo State, Comrade Ayobami Olusegun Adeogun, has congratulated Muslim faithful on the occasion of the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir celebration, calling for prayers, unity and increased vigilance across communities in the state.
Adeogun, who also serves as Auditor of the Nigeria Labour Congress in Oyo State, made the appeal in a goodwill message released to commemorate the Islamic festival widely celebrated as a symbol of sacrifice, faith and compassion.
In the statement, the labour leader urged Muslims to use the spiritual lessons of Eid-el-Kabir to promote peace, love and collective responsibility amid prevailing economic and security challenges facing the country.
He congratulated Muslim faithful for witnessing another Eid-el-Kabir celebration and prayed for long life, good health and prosperity for families across Oyo State and Nigeria.
According to him, prayer remains essential to achieving peace, unity and sustainable development in the country.
Adeogun also called for prayers for victims in Oriire and other communities affected by hardship and insecurity, while urging residents to remain vigilant within their domains during the festive period.
The call comes as security agencies across several states intensified surveillance and public safety measures during the Eid celebrations, amid concerns over criminal activities and communal tensions in some parts of the country.
The NULGE president further reassured workers across local government councils and agencies in Oyo State of his administration’s commitment to staff welfare, career progression and institutional development.
He said the union leadership under him would continue to pursue policies aimed at protecting the interests of workers across Local Governments, Local Council Development Areas, the Local Government Service Commission, Local Government Staff Pension Board and the State Universal Basic Education Board.
According to Adeogun, the administration remains focused on promoting selfless service, academic advancement and professional excellence within the local government system.
He added that efforts were ongoing to sustain programmes targeted at economic prosperity and development across zones in Oyo State.
The Eid-el-Kabir celebration, also known as Ileya in southwestern Nigeria, is one of the most significant Islamic festivals observed globally. It commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah before a ram was provided in his place.
Across Oyo State, Muslim faithful gathered at prayer grounds on Wednesday to observe prayers, slaughter sacrificial animals and celebrate with family members and neighbours.
Religious and community leaders have also used the occasion to call for tolerance, peaceful coexistence and support for vulnerable citizens affected by economic hardship.
Adeogun ended the message with warm Eid greetings to Muslim faithful, expressing optimism for a more peaceful and prosperous Nigeria.
