Nigerian Army Foils Criminal Activities in Plateau, 53 Arrested

Troops of Operations Ensuring Peace conducted coordinated raids in Barkin Ladi and Jos North LGAs, dismantling criminal and extremist networks while reinforcing security across Plateau State.

Nigerian Army Foils Criminal Activities in Plateau, 53 Arrested

The Nigerian Army has detained 53 suspected criminals and extremist group members during coordinated operations in Plateau State over the past 24 hours.

According to operational reports shared with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, troops under Operations Ensuring Peace conducted targeted raids in Barkin Ladi and Jos North Local Government Areas.

In Barkin Ladi, Sector 4 troops raided suspected drug hideouts in Angwan Yama and Kasua, arresting nine individuals in possession of quantities of suspected cannabis, mobile phones, power banks, and other items.

Separately, at around 1:30 a.m., Sector 1 troops, supported by the Special Forces and the Department of State Services, apprehended 44 suspected members of the Sara Suka group in multiple communities in Jos North, recovering various weapons.

The operation also led to the recovery of four cattle stolen from Lugere Community in Riyom Local Government Area, which were returned to their owner, while efforts continue to track the alleged rustlers.

In addition, troops responding to communal clashes and militia attacks in Taraba and Benue states recovered two corpses and treated a civilian who sustained a gunshot wound in Guma Local Government Area.

The army reiterated its commitment to dismantling criminal and extremist networks, protecting civilians, and maintaining law and order nationwide.

Earlier, on Thursday, troops from the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke arrested two suspected gunrunners along Wukari–Ikyaior Road in Taraba State, recovering 444 rounds of ammunition during a routine stop-and-search operation.
