Osun State Governor and Accord Party governorship candidate, Ademola Adeleke, has cast his vote in the ongoing 2026 governorship election.

Adeleke arrived at Polling Unit 009, Ward 02, Abogunde Compound, Ede North Local Government Area, at about 8:10am before exercising his franchise.

The governor is seeking re-election on the Accord Party platform in Saturday’s governorship election.

His arrival came as voters across Osun turned out early for the poll, with accreditation and voting commencing at polling units across the state.

In Ede, Adeleke’s hometown, voters were reported to have arrived at some polling units as early as 6:40am, while vehicles conveyed voters and National Youth Service Corps members to different locations ahead of the exercise.

The early turnout was also reported in parts of Ilesha and Osogbo as voters prepared to participate in the election.

Adeleke’s polling unit is in Ward 02, Abogunde/Sagba, an area that has previously attracted attention during electoral exercises in the state.

The 2026 Osun governorship election is being conducted across the state’s 30 local government areas, with voters choosing a governor for the next four-year term.

The election is also being closely monitored nationally because of its significance ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Adeleke’s re-election bid has made Saturday’s contest particularly important for the incumbent governor, who is seeking to secure another term in office.

His decision to cast his ballot early allows him to return to the wider election process as voting continues across Osun.

Security personnel have also been deployed across the state as authorities seek to maintain order and prevent electoral violence, intimidation and other infractions.

With voting underway, attention is expected to remain on voter turnout, the performance of electoral technology, the conduct of political actors and security personnel, as well as the eventual collation of results.

The Independent National Electoral Commission is expected to announce the outcome after results from polling units are collated through the established electoral process.

For Adeleke, however, the first major step of the day has been completed: casting his ballot at the polling unit where he is registered.
