The Police Service Commission (PSC) has formally handed over 50,000 newly recruited police constables to the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for training, marking the completion of one of the country’s largest police recruitment exercises in recent years.

The handover ceremony was held on Thursday and presided over by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje (retd.), Commissioner I of the PSC, who officially presented the successful candidates to the police authorities for basic training at designated police colleges and other approved training institutions across the country.

Galumje thanked President Bola Tinubu for supporting the recruitment exercise, describing it as a major step toward strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.

He also handed over the official list of successful candidates to the Nigeria Police Force in digital format.

Receiving the recruits on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, who heads the Force Training and Development Department, praised the PSC for conducting a transparent recruitment process.

He said training would begin simultaneously nationwide once funding for the programme is released.

“The training will commence nationwide as soon as funds are released,” he said.

Also speaking, Director of the Police Service Department in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Muhammad, described the recruitment process as credible and transparent.

PSC Secretary Onyemuche Nnamani credited the successful completion of the exercise to effective collaboration among all participating agencies and stakeholders.

The recruitment followed President Tinubu’s declaration of a nationwide security emergency in November 2025, during which he approved the recruitment of 50,000 additional police officers to strengthen the Nigeria Police Force and improve security across the country.

The recruitment portal opened on December 15, 2025, with the application deadline later extended to February 8, 2026 to accommodate more applicants.

Following the completion of screening and selection processes, the successful candidates will now undergo formal police training before deployment to commands and formations nationwide.
