President Bola Tinubu has praised his son, Seyi Tinubu, for mobilising young Nigerians through the City Boy Movement, urging him to do more, serve harder and set an example for future generations.
The President spoke on Monday at an event organised by the movement at the State House, where he addressed his son personally and responded to questions about his political ambitions.
Tinubu said he had received calls from people asking what political office Seyi intended to contest, but jokingly replied that his son was “running after his father.”
“I have watched what you’ve started with City Boy. I got some calls within the last few weeks asking me what is Seyi running for. He’s running after his father,” the President said.
He praised Seyi and other members of the movement for dedicating their time to engaging young people, listening to their concerns and organising them.
Tinubu said he was proud that his son had undertaken the activities without demanding a political title or public office.
“You went to the young people, your age groups, your group. You listened to them and you organised them. I am proud of all of you,” he said.
The President, however, urged Seyi not to rest on his achievements, telling him to expand his efforts and set an example for his children and future generations.
“But I will tell you what every father tells his son. You have only started. Do more.
“Go further. Serve harder. Set an example that your own children, my grandchildren, will be proud to follow,” Tinubu said.
He added that Nigerians were watching the younger generation and should recognise national service as an honour.
“Nigeria is watching so they know that to serve your country is the highest honour,” he said.
Seyi Tinubu is the patron of the City Boy Movement, a group that mobilises young people in support of the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The movement has organised grassroots activities and youth engagement programmes while building support for Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President’s remarks come amid growing public attention on Seyi’s activities and his role in the movement. However, Tinubu did not announce any candidacy for his son or confirm that he intends to contest a particular political office.
At his 41st birthday colloquium in Lagos on October 12, Seyi urged young Nigerians to participate in decision-making and take responsibility for shaping the country’s future.
Speaking at the event, themed “Shaping the Future Together,” he said young people should prepare for leadership by learning from experienced leaders, understanding policy choices and contributing ideas to governance.
The colloquium brought together political leaders, business executives, public officials and young Nigerians to discuss leadership, innovation, enterprise and national development.
Tinubu’s remarks on Monday focused on youth mobilisation and service, with the President encouraging his son and the movement’s members to increase their efforts as political activities ahead of the 2027 elections gather momentum.
