Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare enjoyed a dream start to his Ajax career after scoring on his debut in the Dutch club’s 3-1 pre-season victory over FC Volendam on Sunday.
The Nigerian forward, who recently joined Ajax on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers with an option to make the move permanent, came off the bench in the 71st minute and marked his first appearance with a goal.
Playing at the Kras Stadion in Volendam, Arokodare replaced Brazilian striker Marcos Leonardo before capitalising on a defensive error to score Ajax’s third goal of the afternoon.

Ajax had earlier taken control of the friendly through goals from Anton Gaaei and Marcos Leonardo before Arokodare wrapped up the victory.
The goal offers an early confidence boost for the 25-year-old, who is aiming to revive his career after a challenging spell with Wolves following his move from Racing Genk in 2025.
After struggling for regular goals in England during Wolves’ relegation campaign, Arokodare completed a loan switch to Ajax last week in search of more playing time and a fresh start.
Ajax will be hoping the Nigerian can rediscover the form that made him one of Belgium’s most prolific strikers as they prepare for the new Eredivisie season and their UEFA Conference League campaign.
His debut goal is expected to strengthen his bid for more opportunities as he seeks to re-establish himself at club level and remain in contention for the Super Eagles.
