A disagreement has reportedly emerged within the family of late Nigerian gospel singer Toluwanisings over where he should be laid to rest, with his father and wife said to have different preferences for the burial arrangements.
The singer’s father reportedly wants his son buried inside the house he built or taken to their hometown in Osun State, where his late mother was buried. His wife, however, is said to prefer a cemetery or church in Ibadan.
Speaking in an emotional interview, the bereaved father said he would be happy if his son were buried in the house he built rather than in a conventional burial ground.
According to reports, the father said he contacted his daughter-in-law to discuss the arrangements but was unhappy with her response to his proposal. He reportedly explained that she would not be comfortable living in a house where her husband had been buried.
He subsequently suggested that the singer’s remains be taken to their hometown and laid to rest beside his late mother.
Beyond the burial disagreement, the father shared details about the singer’s childhood, family relationships and religious upbringing.
He said Toluwanisings lost his mother when he was about six months old. Following her death, members of her family took him in and helped raise him.
The father also credited the singer’s elder brother with playing a significant role in his upbringing, including helping with school fees and providing other necessities.
After completing secondary school, Toluwanisings proceeded to Yaba College of Technology in Lagos. His father said the singer met the woman who later became his wife through their participation in a church choir.
He described his son as a caring family member who maintained close relationships with his younger half-siblings and supported them financially whenever he could.
In one of the most emotional revelations, the father said the singer had promised, just a day before his death, to help one of his younger half-siblings establish himself.
He described his late son as a blessing to the family, lamenting that he died while still making plans to improve the welfare of his relatives.
Toluwanisings died in the early hours of October 14, 2026. His family announced his death in a statement but did not disclose an official cause of death.
A Night of Tributes and Service of Songs has been announced for Tuesday, October 27, at Hall of Grace, Jogor Centre, Ibadan, beginning at 3 p.m.
However, the final burial date and location had not been confirmed in the reports detailing the disagreement.
The reported dispute has brought renewed attention to the family’s arrangements for the late gospel minister, as relatives and fans continue to mourn his death.
