The Peoples Democratic Party in Bayelsa State has fixed November 23, 2026, for the commencement of its LGA-to-LGA campaign tour ahead of the 2027 elections, with mobilisation activities planned across all 105 wards in the state.
The timetable released by the state chapter provides for a series of preparatory activities before the grassroots campaign begins, including the inauguration of the State Campaign Council and campaign flag-offs across the state’s senatorial districts.
The schedule was signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Ikaebimo Mark.
According to the timetable, meetings of the State Working Committee, Expanded State Caucus and State Executive Committee will hold from October 26 to 28.
The party will then hold a three-day fasting, prayer and Solemn Assembly from November 5 to 7, followed by a dedication and thanksgiving service on November 8.
The State Campaign Council is scheduled to be inaugurated on November 9, while senatorial district campaign flag-offs will take place on November 17, 19 and 21.
The LGA-to-LGA campaign tour will commence on November 23 and cover all eight local government areas of Bayelsa State.
The PDP said the programme was designed to take its candidates closer to voters and create opportunities for direct engagement with communities.
It said candidates would use the campaign to present their policies and programmes and discuss issues affecting residents, with emphasis on development priorities and citizens’ welfare.
The party also said its campaign would focus on issues rather than personal attacks or inflammatory rhetoric.
“We urged candidates, supporters and campaign officials to show discipline and tolerance while respecting other political parties and participants in the electoral process,” the party said.
The Bayelsa PDP appealed to political actors and citizens to make the 2027 electoral season an opportunity for constructive democratic engagement.
It said candidates should be assessed on their ideas, programmes, records and ability to address the concerns of the people.
According to the party, the campaign would also provide voters with opportunities to listen to candidates, ask questions and compare their positions before making their choices at the polls.
The development comes as political parties intensify preparations for the 2027 elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed February 20, 2027, for the presidential and National Assembly elections, while governorship and State House of Assembly elections are scheduled for March 6 in states covered by the general-election timetable.
Bayelsa is, however, among the states excluded from the 2027 governorship election because its governorship election is held on an off-cycle basis.
The state’s political parties will therefore be preparing for the presidential and National Assembly contests as part of the 2027 general-election cycle, alongside the wider political mobilisation taking place across the country.
INEC has urged political parties, candidates and supporters to adhere to electoral timelines and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the electoral process.
The Bayelsa PDP said its campaign would similarly be conducted peacefully and in accordance with the law, while urging political actors to promote tolerance and respect for other participants.
