The Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) has praised Governor Seyi Makinde over what it described as sustained worker-friendly policies, saying the administration has maintained one of the strongest labour welfare records in the state’s recent history.
The commendation came on Tuesday in Ibadan during a three-in-one programme organised by NULGE, which featured the swearing-in of 25 newly elected branch executives, the celebration of the 2026 International Women’s Day and the maiden edition of “Omidan NULGE.”
The event, held at the Local Government Staff Training School within the Secretariat, brought together labour leaders, government officials and pension administrators, who used the occasion to reflect on the relationship between organised labour and the state government.

Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Staff Pension Board, Hon. Akeem Ademola Ige, said the Makinde administration had maintained consistency in the payment of salaries, pensions and gratuities, describing the governor as a dependable ally of workers and retirees.
Other top government officials, including Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Solomon Akinwole, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ramata Agberemi Dabo, and Senior Special Assistant on Labour Matters, Comrade Titilola Sodo, also applauded the administration’s labour policies.
They said Makinde’s interventions in workers’ welfare had helped stabilise the local government system and improved morale among civil servants.
NULGE President in Oyo State, Comrade Ayobami Adeogun, said local government workers had enjoyed visible dividends of democracy under the current administration, particularly in welfare packages and career progression.
According to him, regular salary payments, pension settlements, gratuity disbursements, promotions and recruitment exercises have significantly improved the working environment for council workers across the state.
“Oyo workers, especially those in the local government system, have benefited immensely from this administration through prompt salary payment, regular promotions and training opportunities,” Adeogun said.
He added that the government’s commitment to staff development through training and retraining had also strengthened service delivery at the grassroots.
The labour leader urged the newly inaugurated branch executives to prioritise workers’ welfare and remain accountable to members in their respective councils.
The commendations come amid recent welfare interventions by the Makinde administration, including transport support measures aimed at cushioning economic pressure on workers.
Labour leaders at the event described Makinde as one of the few governors in Nigeria who had consistently placed workers at the centre of governance, noting that labour stability in Oyo had helped improve public service efficiency.
The ceremony also featured the maiden edition of “Omidan NULGE,” a competition aimed at promoting women’s participation in labour activities and leadership.
At the end of the contest, Miss Favour Alade, representing Ibadan North-East Local Government Primary Health Care Department, emerged the winner after competing against 16 female contestants drawn from various council areas.
She received a cash prize of N100,000.
The event was attended by serving and former union leaders, senior government officials and members of the state NULGE executive council.
The endorsement adds to growing labour support for the Makinde administration as conversations around governance continuity and succession ahead of the 2027 elections begin to gather momentum across Oyo State.
