Marvel Studios has officially announced British actor David Jonsson as the new Black Panther, introducing him as Prince T’Challa II (Toussaint) in “Black Panther 3,” six years after the death of Chadwick Boseman.
The announcement came during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2026, where director Ryan Coogler revealed Jonsson alongside returning stars Letitia Wright and Winston Duke.
Marvel also confirmed that “Black Panther 3” will arrive in theatres on December 15, 2028.

Rather than recasting Boseman’s original T’Challa, Marvel is continuing the story through his son, Prince T’Challa II, who was introduced as a child in the closing scene of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” The new film will follow his coming-of-age journey as he embraces the Black Panther legacy.
Jonsson, 32, has earned widespread recognition for his performances in “Industry,” “Rye Lane,” “Alien: Romulus,” and “The Long Walk.”
Speaking during the Comic-Con presentation, the actor thanked Marvel Studios and fans for welcoming him into the franchise.
The casting brings to an end years of speculation over how Marvel would continue the Black Panther story following Chadwick Boseman’s death in 2020 after a private battle with colon cancer.
Following his passing, Marvel opted not to recast the original T’Challa. Instead, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, became the new Black Panther in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.”
Wright will return in the third film alongside Winston Duke as M’Baku, while Academy Award-winning actor Denzel Washington joins the Marvel Cinematic Universe in an undisclosed role.
Ryan Coogler also returns to direct the film, completing the acclaimed trilogy that began with the groundbreaking 2018 blockbuster.
