Veteran journalist, respected Ibadan chief and former press secretary to successive Oyo State governors, Chief Lekan Alabi, has died at the age of 76.
Alabi, who held the traditional title of Abese Olubadan of Ibadanland, reportedly passed away on Saturday morning in Lagos.
His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Adeola Oloko, the media aide to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja.

“The veteran journalist and multiple press secretary to former Oyo State governors, Lekan Alabi, is dead,” the statement said.
“The Abese Olubadan passed away this morning in Lagos at the age of 76.
“He will be buried tomorrow (Sunday) in accordance with Islamic rites.”
A respected figure in journalism and public service, Alabi served as press secretary to several former governors of Oyo State and remained a prominent voice in media, public affairs and Ibadan’s traditional institution.
He also authored several works on the history and culture of Ibadanland and was widely recognised for his contributions to public communication and cultural preservation.
As Abese Olubadan, he was an influential member of the Olubadan-in-Council and played an active role in traditional affairs.
He is expected to be buried on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites, while tributes from political leaders, media practitioners and traditional rulers are anticipated.
