The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Akwa Ibom State Command, has dismissed allegations that its State Commandant, Geraldine Abetianbe, shields officers accused of misconduct and has a strained relationship with other security agencies in the state.

The command described the claims as false, malicious and without factual basis, insisting that it remains committed to accountability, professionalism and collaboration with sister security agencies.

The reaction followed an online report alleging that the commandant protected erring personnel, refused to distribute newly acquired technology operational system packs and drones, victimised officers and neglected staff welfare.

In a statement issued in Uyo , Akwa Ibom, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Friday Ekerete, said the publication contained several inaccuracies, including the wrongful identification of the head of the command’s Anti-Vandal Unit.

He clarified that SC Michael Asibor is not a member of the Akwa Ibom State Command and that the Head of the Anti-Vandal Unit is SC Akan Ekanem.

Ekerete stressed that the command has always cooperated with investigations and would never shield any officer found guilty of misconduct.

The spokesperson also rejected reports of a rift between the NSCDC and other security agencies, describing existing relationships as cordial and mutually beneficial.

Responding to allegations that operational technology packs and drones were withheld from personnel, Ekerete explained that the equipment can only be deployed after officers receive specialised training from instructors at the Corps’ National Headquarters, in line with official procedures.

He assured residents that the command remains focused on protecting critical national assets and infrastructure and would not be distracted by attempts to create division within the Corps.

The command also urged media organisations to verify information before publication to ensure accurate reporting and avoid misleading the public.
