The Bayelsa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approved the construction of a ₦20 million palace for the traditional ruler of Elebele Community in Ogbia Local Government Area, the hometown of former President Goodluck Jonathan, as it steps up grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2028 governorship election.

The State Chairman of the PDP, George Turnah, announced the project on Sunday during a reception organised to welcome former APC chieftain Gabriel Claudius, popularly known as “One Million Man,” and his supporters back into the party.

Turnah said the decision followed a visit by party leaders to the community, where they found the traditional ruler’s palace in a poor condition.

He disclosed that the party had already approved ₦20 million for the project and directed that construction should begin immediately rather than waiting until election campaigns.

“We are not going to wait until after the election. We have seen the condition of the palace, and it is not befitting of Elebele. Our leaders have already provided ₦20 million, and work will commence immediately,” he said.

According to him, the project demonstrates the PDP’s commitment to communities that have remained loyal to the party over the years.

Turnah noted that the PDP had facilitated several appointments and elective positions for indigenes of Elebele and promised that additional development projects would be unveiled when campaigns officially commence.

He described the event as a homecoming for Claudius and his supporters rather than a campaign rally, insisting the PDP remained committed to returning to Government House in 2028.

PDP leader Great Joshua Maciver also called on members to remain united and strengthen grassroots mobilisation, expressing confidence that the party would reclaim key elective positions in the state.

Claudius, in his remarks, pledged to work with his supporters to strengthen the PDP and ensure its success in future elections.

The event was attended by party leaders, National Assembly candidates, state House of Assembly candidates and supporters from across Bayelsa State.
