Bayelsa United have appointed experienced Nigerian football coach Abdul Maikaba as the club’s new Technical Adviser as preparations begin for a campaign to secure an immediate return to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The unveiling was performed on Thursday by Bayelsa State Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Akpe, who said Governor Douye Diri had directed the newly inaugurated Interim Management Board, led by Dr. Peter Singabele, to ensure the club regains promotion next season.
Akpe reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to restoring Bayelsa United to the top flight and expressed confidence in the new technical crew.

He also instructed the coaching staff to build a squad with a strong grassroots identity by ensuring that about 70 per cent of the players are sourced from within Bayelsa State.
Maikaba signed a one-year contract, renewable based on performance, and will be assisted by former Go-Round FC head coach Ngozi Elechi.
Speaking after his unveiling, the former Wikki Tourists, Plateau United, Akwa United, Enyimba, Rangers International and Kano Pillars coach said Bayelsa United’s ambition to regain NPFL status influenced his decision to accept the appointment.
He pledged to give his best to ensure the club returns to the top flight and promised to implement an attacking style of football.
Maikaba also said he hopes to build a team that supporters across Bayelsa State will be proud of.
As part of preparations for the new season, Bayelsa United will organise a 12-team pre-season tournament involving the eight quarter-finalists from the last edition of the Prosperity Cup, alongside Selena FC, Bayelsa Talents Under-19, Bayelsa United Feeders and City Boy FC.
The club said the competition is intended to discover emerging talents and strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign.
