The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Edo State Command, has deployed 1,300 personnel across the state’s three senatorial districts as part of security arrangements for the local government election scheduled for Saturday, July 11, 2026.

The deployment is aimed at safeguarding lives and property, protecting critical national assets and ensuring a peaceful electoral process before, during and after the poll.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ogbebor Efosa, who said all necessary security measures had been put in place ahead of the election.

According to the statement, the State Commandant, Akintayo Ayinla, assured residents that the Corps was fully prepared to carry out its constitutional responsibilities and guarantee a safe environment for voters and other stakeholders.

“The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Edo State Command has deployed 1,300 personnel across the three senatorial districts ahead of the local government election on Saturday,” the statement read.

“The State Commandant, Akintayo Ayinla, has assured the people of Edo State that the command is fully prepared to discharge its constitutional mandate and provide a secure environment for a peaceful electoral process.”

The command urged political parties, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders to comply with electoral laws and shun violence, intimidation and other forms of electoral malpractice.

It reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with other security agencies to ensure that the election is free, fair, credible and peaceful across the state.

Eligible voters were also encouraged to come out and exercise their civic responsibility without fear, with assurances of adequate security throughout the electoral process.

Saturday’s poll will see political parties contest chairmanship and councillorship positions across Edo’s 18 local government areas.

The Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) had fixed Saturday, July 11, 2026, for the conduct of the election as preparations enter the final stage.

The security deployment forms part of broader efforts by law enforcement agencies to maintain peace, protect electoral materials and officials, and ensure that residents vote in a safe and orderly environment.
