The Secretary to the Government of Gombe State, Ibrahim Njodi, has issued a stern warning to workers at the Gombe State Liaison Office in Kaduna, declaring that the state government will no longer tolerate absenteeism, truancy and poor work ethics in the civil service.
Njodi delivered the warning on Monday during an inspection visit to the liaison office, where he met with staff and assessed facilities at the government-owned premises. The visit coincided with the Annual General Meeting of the New Nigerian Development Company Limited in Kaduna.
Addressing employees, the SSG said the era of drawing government salaries without commensurate productivity was over, stressing that civil servants must demonstrate commitment and accountability in the discharge of their responsibilities.

“On no account should any member of staff in this liaison office display a nonchalant attitude towards government business. Gone are the days when civil servants receive salaries with little or no productivity,” Njodi said.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to enforcing discipline across the state civil service, warning that workers who repeatedly violate public service rules would face appropriate sanctions.
“The administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has zero tolerance for any civil servant whose stock-in-trade is absenteeism, truancy and the flagrant abuse of civil service rules and regulations,” he stated.
As part of efforts to strengthen accountability, Njodi directed every staff member attached to the liaison office to submit a detailed job description to his office on or before the close of work on Friday.
According to him, the exercise is intended to clearly define individual responsibilities, improve service delivery and ensure that every employee is effectively contributing to government operations.
Earlier, the Acting Liaison Officer, Bilhatu Latile, said the Kaduna Liaison Office has 13 members of staff serving at the guest house, office complex and staff quarters.
She appealed to the Gombe State Government to renovate the facility, saying improved infrastructure would enhance staff productivity and create a more conducive working environment.
“We appeal to the Gombe State Government, through the Secretary to the State Government, to consider giving the liaison office a facelift to improve the working environment and the condition of the facilities,” Latile said.
The Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya administration has consistently emphasised discipline, accountability and improved service delivery as key pillars of its public sector reforms, urging civil servants to uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
