Former House of Representatives member, Jimoh Ojugbele, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress , APC senatorial candidate for Ogun West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election after securing a landslide victory in the party’s primary election.
Ojugbele, who previously represented Ado-Odo/Ota Federal Constituency for three consecutive terms in the National Assembly, defeated three other aspirants to clinch the APC ticket with 85,552 votes.
Announcing the result on Monday, the returning officer for the district, Dr Dapo Odukoya, disclosed that 86,811 accredited voters participated in the exercise conducted across the senatorial district.
The primary election, according to party officials and participants, was largely peaceful and devoid of violence, a development many party loyalists described as a positive signal ahead of the 2027 elections in Ogun State.
Speaking shortly after he was declared winner, Ojugbele commended party members and electoral officials for what he described as a transparent and orderly process.
“First of all, we have to thank God for today’s election. It was free and fair in my ward, and from the information gathered from other local governments and wards, the exercise was peaceful and seamless without any form of crisis,” he said.
The APC flag bearer noted that the conduct of the primary reflected growing unity within the ruling party in Ogun West, adding that the atmosphere surrounding the exercise demonstrated political maturity among party stakeholders.
Observers within the district say the emergence of Ojugbele could reshape the political dynamics in Ogun West, particularly given his long-standing grassroots structure in Ado-Odo/Ota and his reputation for constituency projects during his time in the House of Representatives.
During his acceptance speech, the former lawmaker recalled his performance in office, especially infrastructure and empowerment projects which earned him the nickname “Mr Projects” among supporters.
Ojugbele also acknowledged the performance of the incumbent senator representing Ogun West, Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, describing him as “a grand master of projects.”
According to him, the current senator has significantly transformed representation in the district through various developmental initiatives and constituency interventions.
“I want to assure the people of Ogun West that, with their continued support, I will improve upon the achievements of Senator Adeola and deliver even more dividends of democracy across the senatorial district,” Ojugbele stated.
Political analysts say the APC primary in Ogun West is expected to shape early conversations around the 2027 elections in Ogun State, especially as major political parties begin internal consultations and strategic realignments.
The Ogun West Senatorial District remains one of the most politically influential zones in the state, covering key commercial and industrial communities including Ado-Odo/Ota, Yewa North and Yewa South.
The district has continued to attract attention due to its growing voting population, economic importance and increasing influence in state and national politics.
With the APC maintaining a strong structure across Ogun State, party leaders are expected to intensify reconciliation efforts among aspirants and supporters ahead of the general election campaign season.
