Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has visited FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja, hours after meeting President Bola Tinubu following his re-election.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, on Thursday visited the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as he continued his post-election engagements in Abuja.

A photograph from the meeting showed Adeleke and Wike shaking hands while holding the governor’s certificate of return.

The picture was shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, who captioned it, “Governor Ademola Adeleke visits the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.”

The visit came hours after Adeleke held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Adeleke’s meeting with the President followed his victory in the August 15 Osun State governorship election, where he secured a second term on the platform of the Accord Party.

The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke winner after he polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.

African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam came third with 17,180 votes.

Adeleke won 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji secured 11, giving the incumbent a winning margin of 66,252 votes.

The result marked Adeleke’s second governorship victory and came after he switched from the Peoples Democratic Party to Accord ahead of the election.

During his meeting with Tinubu, Adeleke presented his certificate of return and expressed appreciation to the President over the conduct of the election.

Speaking briefly after the meeting, the governor said he went to the Presidential Villa to thank Tinubu for respecting the democratic process.

“Yeah, that is why I’m here to thank Mr President, the father of the nation, because he fought for this democracy,” Adeleke said.

“That is why he allowed free and fair election, and that is the result. That is why I’m here, to say thank you to ensure that democracy lives in Nigeria.”

The governor’s Abuja engagements come at a politically significant moment, with attention already shifting towards the 2027 general elections.

Although the Osun election was primarily a state-level contest, the outcome has wider implications for the South-West, particularly following Adeleke’s decision to contest under Accord rather than the PDP.

His victory also strengthened his position within Osun politics and gave him another four years to consolidate his administration.

The meeting with Wike adds another dimension to Adeleke’s post-election consultations. Wike, a former Rivers State governor and current FCT minister, remains one of the most influential political figures in the country and has continued to play a prominent role in national political discussions ahead of 2027.

For Adeleke, the immediate challenge will be translating his electoral victory into political stability and effective governance while maintaining working relationships with the Federal Government.

His meetings in Abuja are therefore being watched beyond the immediate post-election celebrations, particularly as political actors begin positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.
