Nollywood faith-based film Agbara Nla: The Return has recorded more than N71 million in single-day preview sales ahead of its nationwide cinema release.
The film’s distributor, Nile Entertainment, announced the figure, describing the performance as the biggest first-day gross for a Nollywood title and the biggest opening for a faith-based film.
Nigerian Box Office also reported that the film generated about N70 million from 12,134 admissions during preview screenings held between September 25 and October 1.
The platform said the performance represented the biggest single-day preview gross recorded in West Africa, while the admissions figure was the highest first-day admissions total recorded in 2026.
Nile Entertainment separately put the single-day preview earnings at more than N71 million.
The distributor celebrated the performance as a major milestone for the franchise, saying the film had returned with a strong reception from cinema audiences.
Agbara Nla: The Return is now showing in cinemas nationwide, 33 years after the original film was released.
The new production is a modern reimagining of Agbara Nla, the 1993 Christian film created by filmmaker Mike Bamiloye. The original was later released in English as The Ultimate Power in 1994.
The story returns to Muwonleru, a village controlled by the powerful herbalist Isawuru.
Two believers, Olaboye and Olatomi, leave their city lives to take the Christian message to the community, setting up a conflict between their faith and Isawuru’s spiritual power.
Bamiloye reprises his role as Isawuru in the new production, while Damilola Mike-Bamiloye and Joshua Bamiloye directed the film.
The cast also features Aanu Kolade Abiodun, Remilekun Mosiko, Philip Olubakin, Gloria Mike-Bamiloye and David Kola Okeowo.
The strong preview numbers give the film an early commercial boost as it enters its full theatrical run.
While the distributor reported earnings above N71 million and Nigerian Box Office reported N70 million, the two figures point to the same broad development: Agbara Nla: The Return attracted more than 12,000 admissions during its preview period and delivered one of the year’s biggest single-day openings for a Nigerian film.
Its final box-office performance will become clearer as the film continues its nationwide cinema run.
