The Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has mourned the death of Ikeoye Oyetoro, an Information Officer with Ibadan North-East Local Government, describing her passing as a painful loss to the journalism and public information community.

Oyetoro’s death was announced in the early hours of Friday, October 2, 2026.

In a condolence statement signed by the NUJ Oyo Chairman, Akeem Abas, and Secretary, Temidayo Adu, the union expressed sadness over the death, saying it had left a significant void among her family, colleagues, friends and members of the journalism profession.

The council described Oyetoro as a professional journalist and competent information officer who demonstrated a strong understanding of journalism and public information management throughout her career.

Until her death, Oyetoro served as an Information Officer at Ibadan North-East Local Government, where she was actively involved in communicating the activities and programmes of the council to the public.

Several official communications issued by the local government in 2026 carried her name in her capacity as Head of the Information Unit, reflecting her role in the council’s public communication and information management.

The NUJ also acknowledged Oyetoro’s involvement in the professional body representing local government information officers.

According to the union, she was an active stakeholder in the Association of Local Government Information Officers, which has transitioned into the Conference of Local Government Information Officers (COLGIO), Oyo State Chapter.

The council said her contributions to the professional community would remain memorable to members of COLGIO and the NUJ, describing her death as a significant loss to local government information management and the wider journalism family.

The union extended its condolences to the Oyetoro family, her colleagues, friends and associates, urging them to draw strength from her life and contributions to the profession.

It also commiserated with the management and staff of Ibadan North-East Local Government and members of COLGIO over the loss.

The National Association of Christian Journalists (NACJ), Oyo State chapter, also joined colleagues and associates in mourning Oyetoro. The association described her as a committed journalist and dedicated public servant and noted her previous service as its State Secretary.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Oyetoro was involved in communicating developments at the grassroots level, making her a familiar figure within the local government information management community.

Her death has therefore drawn tributes from journalists, public information practitioners, former colleagues and associates who worked with her during her career.

The Oyo NUJ prayed to Almighty God to grant Oyetoro eternal rest and give her family, colleagues and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
