The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate has opened registration for its Health Insurance Scheme, providing free healthcare coverage to eligible Federal Defined Benefits Scheme pensioners managed by the agency.

The PTAD Health Insurance Scheme, known as PHIS, is administered in partnership with the National Health Insurance Authority and is designed to provide eligible pensioners with access to healthcare services through approved health facilities across Nigeria.

Registration is being conducted through the official PHIS online portal.

The scheme is available to Federal Defined Benefits Scheme pensioners who are on PTAD’s active pension records.

The insurance is specifically for the eligible pensioner and cannot be transferred to a spouse, dependant, next-of-kin or caregiver.

How to register

Pensioners should visit the PHIS portal and begin the enrolment process.

They will need their PTAD pension number and surname to log in. For first-time users, the surname is used as the initial password.

Applicants will then be required to complete an identity verification process by taking a live selfie with a smartphone equipped with a working front-facing camera.

The pensioner must also provide personal information, including their residential address, emergency contact, next-of-kin details and preferred hospital.

A National Identification Number can also be provided where available.

After completing the required information, the pensioner can submit the enrolment for processing.

PTAD’s PHIS portal says approval typically takes up to 72 hours. Approved applicants will receive SMS and email notifications containing instructions on how to access their NHIA health card.

What you need

Pensioners should have the following before starting:

  • PTAD pension number
  • Registered surname
  • Smartphone with front camera
  • NIN, if available
  • Next-of-kin details
  • Emergency contact details
  • Preferred hospital

Registration is free.

The scheme provides healthcare through NHIA-approved or registered hospitals and health facilities in Nigeria.

Pensioners who have difficulties completing the online process can visit a PTAD state office for assistance from PHIS-trained officers.

PTAD is urging eligible Federal Defined Benefits Scheme pensioners to complete their enrolment and ensure that the information supplied during registration is accurate.
