Police in the United Kingdom (UK) have launched an international manhunt for a man suspected of murdering his wife and two young daughters after he allegedly fled the country for Zimbabwe.
Bedfordshire Police on Wednesday identified the suspect as Ndodana Mkhanyisi Tshuma, 42, a British citizen of Zimbabwean heritage who is also known as Mark.
Investigators believe Tshuma left the UK through Heathrow Airport on Saturday using his British passport before the bodies of his wife, Nothabo Zandile Tshuma, 42, and their daughters, Natalie, 15, and Nala, five, were discovered at their home in Great Denham, Bedfordshire.
Police said officers forced entry into the property on Monday after concerns were raised, where they found the bodies of the mother and her two children.
The investigation, codenamed Operation Snowdrift, is being handled by the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit.
Detective Inspector Lee Martin appealed directly to the suspect to surrender, saying police believe he is now in Zimbabwe and are working with national and international agencies to locate him.
He stressed that criminal investigations “know no borders” and urged the suspect to hand himself over to local authorities.
Assistant Chief Constable John Murphy described the killings as a deeply distressing tragedy and said investigators have committed all necessary resources to establish exactly what happened and bring the suspect to justice.
Police said there is currently no indication of any wider threat to the public but confirmed that officers will maintain an increased presence in Great Denham to reassure residents during the investigation.
Authorities have also released CCTV images of the suspect and appealed for anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around Carnoustie Drive on Friday or Saturday to come forward.
The deaths have left the local community in shock, with neighbours laying flowers near the family home in tribute to the victims.
One resident described Zandile as “such a gracious mother,” while others expressed disbelief that such an incident could happen in the normally peaceful neighbourhood.
The investigation remains ongoing as UK police continue to work with international partners to locate the suspect.
