President Bola Tinubu on Thursday convened a high-level security meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, bringing together the country’s top military commanders, intelligence chiefs and security advisers for a comprehensive assessment of Nigeria’s security situation.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted for more than two hours, came amid renewed military offensives against terrorist and bandit groups across several parts of the country, particularly in the North-West and North-East.
According to officials familiar with the discussions, the meeting focused on reviewing ongoing security operations, assessing emerging threats and evaluating progress across different theatres of operation. However, the Presidency had not released an official statement outlining the resolutions reached as of the time of publication.
Among those in attendance were the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar; Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Isa; Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye; Director-General of the Department of State Services, Adeola Ajayi; Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency, Mohammed Mohammed; Inspector-General of Police, Olatunde Disu; and the President’s Special Adviser on Homeland Security, Major General Adeyinka Famadewa (retd.).
The meeting followed recent military operations in Zamfara, Katsina and Borno states, where troops reported major gains against terrorists and bandits.
The military recently announced that Operation FANSAN YAMMA, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, disrupted a planned terrorist offensive in the North-West after precision airstrikes targeted a convoy of armed fighters.
Security forces also reported the killing of a notorious bandit commander during operations in Zamfara, while troops of Operation Hadin Kai repelled another insurgent attack on the Mairari military base in Borno State.
The latest meeting underscores the Tinubu administration’s continued focus on addressing insecurity through coordinated military and intelligence operations.
Earlier this year, the Federal Government maintained that security forces were making steady progress against insurgents and bandits despite persistent attacks in parts of the country.
