The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has concluded arrangements to distribute 53,040 bags of fertilizer to farmers and other beneficiaries across the 13 local government areas of Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2026 wet farming season.
The intervention, scheduled to begin on May 31, will involve 88 trucks loaded with fertilizer as part of the senator’s annual agricultural support program aimed at boosting food production and reducing the burden of rising farming costs.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.
According to the statement, the beneficiaries include farmers, APC stakeholders, elected local government chairmen, vice chairmen, councillors, secretaries, traditional rulers, clerics, school administrators, security personnel, and social media influencers across the district.
Barau said the initiative was designed to support farmers and complement the federal government’s food security drive under President Bola Tinubu.
“This intervention is aimed at supporting our farmers and complementing the efforts of President Bola Tinubu towards achieving national food security,” he said.
The deputy senate president urged beneficiaries to make proper use of the fertilizer to improve agricultural output during the upcoming farming season.
The fertilizer distribution is the latest in a string of empowerment programs introduced by the Kano North senator in recent months.
Earlier this year, Barau distributed thousands of bags of rice to residents across the senatorial district during Ramadan and Sallah celebrations.
He has also sustained annual fertilizer interventions targeted at supporting farmers across Kano State as part of efforts to boost food production and rural livelihoods.
Barau reiterated his commitment to programs aimed at improving the welfare of residents across the Kano North Senatorial District.
