Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has mourned the death of the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency, Ibrahim Duguri, and four of his children in a fatal road accident in Alkaleri Local Government Area.
The accident reportedly occurred at Yalwan Duguri on Saturday, October 17, 2026, plunging the family and the state government into mourning. Another son of the deceased, identified as Suleiman, reportedly survived the crash.
The governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, disclosed the tragedy in a condolence statement issued on Saturday.
Mohammed, who expressed sympathy on behalf of his family, the Bauchi State Government and residents, described Duguri’s death as a monumental loss, particularly to the state’s health sector.
According to the governor, the deceased distinguished himself through his dedication to improving access to healthcare services, especially for residents who struggle to afford medical treatment.
He said Duguri played an important role in advancing the state’s health contributory management system, which supports efforts to make healthcare more accessible to vulnerable and less privileged residents.
The four children who died in the accident were identified as Hajara, Usman, Rukayya and Maryam. The governor also expressed concern for Suleiman, the surviving son, and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.
Mohammed said Duguri’s contributions extended beyond his responsibilities as head of the agency. He also participated in the state’s medical team during pilgrimage exercises in Saudi Arabia, where he contributed to efforts to safeguard pilgrims’ health and well-being.
The governor’s condolence message took on a personal dimension as he revealed that Duguri was not only a valued public servant but also his close friend and classmate.
He said the death represented the loss of a trusted companion whose life was marked by service, loyalty and commitment to humanity.
The tragedy was made even more painful by the deaths of four children in the same incident, according to the governor.
He said the circumstances had compounded the grief of the bereaved family, adding that words could not adequately capture the pain associated with losing several members of one family in a single accident.
The governor prayed to Almighty Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, accept their good deeds and grant Duguri and his children eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
He also prayed for Suleiman, other members of the immediate family, the Duguri Emirate Council, friends and associates to find the strength to bear the loss.
Mohammed urged residents to remember the bereaved family in their prayers and extend compassion and solidarity to them during the mourning period.
The funeral prayer for Duguri and the four children was scheduled for Sunday, October 18, at 11am at the palace of the District Head of Yalwan Duguri.
Duguri headed the Bauchi State Health Contributory Management Agency, which works to improve access to healthcare services through the state’s contributory health management system.
The agency’s work includes supporting healthcare delivery and expanding access to services for vulnerable residents across the state.
The tragedy has left the family mourning the loss of five members in one incident, while the governor has called on residents to support the bereaved with prayers and compassion.
