Nollywood actress and filmmaker Iyabo Ojo has accused a Ghanaian television station of airing her newly released movie, The Memory of You Part 2, without her authorization less than 24 hours after its YouTube premiere.

In a video posted on Instagram on Saturday, Ojo alleged that North East TV broadcast the film without obtaining permission.

She said she was shocked to discover the alleged unauthorized transmission shortly after releasing the movie on her official YouTube channel.

“I found out that there’s this TV station called North East TV in Ghana already showing my movie on their TV channel. I don’t understand. I didn’t give you permission. I don’t know you,” she said.

The actress lamented that piracy makes it difficult for filmmakers to recover the huge investments made in producing movies.

“You just took my movie that I posted on my YouTube channel, not even up to 24 hours, and put it on your TV for people to watch for free while you make money. How do we make our money back?” she asked.

Ojo appealed to the Ghana National Film Authority and the Ghanaian government to investigate the matter and strengthen the enforcement of copyright laws.

She noted that filmmaking involves significant financial commitments, including payments for actors, crew members, equipment, costumes, accommodation and production logistics.

Her video generated widespread reactions from fellow Nollywood actors, including Destiny Etiko and Bimbo Ademoye, who said they had encountered similar experiences.

Several social media users also urged the actress to consider legal action if the alleged unauthorized broadcast violated copyright laws.

As of the time of publication, the television station had not publicly responded to the allegations.
